📝 Description

Samsung SM-A225 (Galaxy A22) – MT6358 Power IC Hardware Solution

Samsung SM-A225, known as Galaxy A22, is a MediaTek based smartphone. The main power control of this model is handled by the MT6358 Power IC. This IC is responsible for starting the phone and supplying correct voltage to all important motherboard sections. In real repair work, many dead, no-power, and auto-restart problems in this model are related to MT6358 failure.

Function of MT6358 Power IC

The MT6358 Power IC takes power from the battery and distributes stable voltage to the CPU, RAM, internal storage, display, backlight, camera, audio, and network circuits. When the power key is pressed, this IC manages the complete power-on sequence. If MT6358 is faulty, the phone will not turn on even if the battery is fully charged.

Common Problems Seen in SM-A225

From practical repair experience, these issues usually point to MT6358 power IC problems:

Phone completely dead, no vibration or display

No response when pressing the power key

Phone stuck on logo or restarting again and again

Very low or zero charging current

MT6358 area heating immediately after battery connection

No display or no backlight due to missing voltage

These faults often happen after water damage, charging short, heavy drop, or power surge.

How to Diagnose MT6358 Power IC

First, check the battery voltage. It should be around 3.8V to 4.2V. Then check the main power line (VPH_PWR) using a multimeter. If battery voltage is present but the phone remains dead, MT6358 should be suspected.

Using a DC power supply makes diagnosis easier. If there is no current draw or unstable current when the power button is pressed, it usually confirms a power IC issue. Also check for short circuits near the MT6358 area.

Visual inspection is important. Look for corrosion, damaged coils, or burnt capacitors around the power IC.

Hardware Repair Solution

In some cases, reflow of the MT6358 Power IC may temporarily fix the issue if the problem is caused by dry solder joints. However, reflow is not a permanent solution.

The correct and permanent repair is MT6358 Power IC replacement. Remove the faulty IC carefully using controlled hot air temperature. Clean the pads properly, then install a new or reballed MT6358 IC and solder it correctly.

After replacement:

Check for short circuit

Measure main voltage lines

Power ON the phone using DC supply first

Also inspect nearby coils, resistors, and capacitors. A faulty supporting component can damage the new power IC again.

Important Precautions

Always disconnect the battery before heating

Avoid excessive heat to protect CPU and memory

Use good quality flux and proper tools

Confirm the fault before replacing the IC
